Reflect on what you attend to

Wiliam James writes, "My experience is what I attend to."  Where do you focus your attention?  Notice how the mind is focused and also relaxed.  It is selectively aware. People do not always recall how to feel and engage in the simple things without hurrying. What would it take for you to be truly present at each step of the journey? Take a moment to appreciate things. Recognize the intrinsic meaning of just being.

How interesting. I come here on a Sunday evening and find a Monday morning post. You are most advanced, Ms. Liara. It's 10pm where I am (Texas). It was 11am when you posted this. Your message here is huge; however, the type used to convey it is tiny. I need an enlarge button!

"What would it take for you to be truly present at each step of the journey?"

A very important question. We often fool ourselves that we are present when we are really evaluating what presence feels like.

Thanks for the pointer.

Brenda, many people dwell on yesterday or tomorrow without recognizing the meaning of right now. You have opportunities to grow aware of your choices and the reasons behind them. Consider that human beings are born with the natural tendency to avoid physical and mental pain. You might ask why people are drawn to engage in situations of suffering. One view is people forget to accurately assess or do not pay sufficient attention to the nature of choices. Being present reveals a new priority.

Kaushik, human beings have a tendency to seek refuge or protection from discomfort. An alternative is to recognize the pervasive conditioning that creates a sense of suffering and ignorance of mental processes that create suffering. Notice the inner judge subsists on the energy generated by ignorance.
